It is mentioned that modalframe is a dependency, which is again dependent on jquery ui module, but the jquery ui module is deprecated. How I can use modalframe now?

There is another contrib module, which depends on modalframe. So your help is appreciated regarding its use.

Note: I am already using jquery update, but do not understand how jquery ui is included in it.

I'm very curious about this as well. Is it using something from the jquery_ui module, or does it just need jQuery UI to be loaded?

Yes, I read this module does not allow installation witout jquery_ui and I just tried it and installed Jquery_ui v2 on top of the already built and enabled jquery update.
It does work, but I'm not impressed with the quality of the popup, strange pixels appearing on places where they should not. Not sure if that is because of the jquery issue or just the bad coding of the modal window.
